알바 경험이 있는 청년의 약 40%는 특정 성별을 선호해 고용을 거절당한 경험이 있다(여성 37.0%, 남성 40.5%)고 응답했다. 현재 임금 종사자인 청년 중 다니는 직장에서 남·남성이 하는 근무가 구분돼 있다는 데에 남성의 32.3%, 여성의 44.5%가 '그렇다'고 대답했다.
다른 지역도 상황은 유사하다. 이날 오전 대면수업이 있어 학교에 왔다는 울산대의 두 재학생은 “3학년이지만 과 친구나 동아리 친구도 있지 않고 알바도 없는 초등학생활을 하고 있다”며 “특출나게 아르바이트는 교내 근로장학생 말고는 찾기 힘들 정도”라고 말했다.
